After not always getting the image I was looking for, I did a little research and found the Gelli Plate. The Gelli plate is a product made by Gelli Arts for monoprinting. It is a soft rectangle or round plate of a gelatin - like substance. I think making monoprints on this plate is very easy and fun. Because the Gelli Plate has a squishy material it is very easy to make clear marks - even with the smallest stencils or markmaking tools.
To start printing with the Gelli Plate you need additionally to the plate a brayer and paint. You can use all different types of liquid acrylic paints. I think the cheap craft acrylics work very well, because they contain next to the pigments also a lot of water.
The more mark making tools you have to give your prints patterns and an interesting look, the better.
You can take all different kind of stencils, stamps or household items which have an interesting pattern to create interesting looks for your paper. Just look around in your house, supermarket, hardware stores or craft stores.
Here are some examples:
To start printing you take a little bit of paint and put it on your Gelli Plate.
Take the brayer and spread the paint evenly over the plate.
You add mark making tools to your plate. Here I added a stencil on top of the paint.
Then you place your paper on top of the stencil and take the print.
If you add another layer of paint and pattern to your paper the print will get more depth.
This creative process is very relaxing and almost meditative. Adding layer over layer with different colours and pattern is a very satisfying process and the results are beautiful!!
